VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE ZOMBIE MOVIE - Poll closed
February 28th 2010 23:39
Now that your favourite vampire movies have been selected it’s time to really peel back the undead flesh. Who are your favourite gut-munchers? Which putrid flesh excites you the most? What cinema evisceration exhilarates you the most? How revved up do you get when you hear the call of “Zomieeeeeeeeee!” ...?
Below is a list of many of the most influential and admired zombie movies ever made, including some considered so bad, they’re good. It’s funny how zombie movies command that kind of dodgy respect. I’ve included some zombie movies that don’t even use the word “zombie” in the entire movie, and some which feature an infection that doesn't create the undead, but turns the victim into a zombie-like flesh-eater; the lines of ghoulish distinction are pallid at best. Of late, both creatures of the undead – zombies and vampires - have made a return in fine form to the big screen and in your living rooms.
So let’s get the ball rolling, the bones a-cracking! Cast three votes for your top favourite zombie movie, two votes for your second favourite, and one vote for your third favourite. And in-keeping with the pattern of the previous poll, let me know which zombie movie you consider the worst, and I don’t mean so bad it’s good, I mean so bad it damn well reeks.

If not, maybe you could include Dead Set, the British TV series, which had zombies infesting the Big Brother TV set. I loved it!
Also, Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, the first as it was shot on a tiny budget and with clever cheap effects and cinematography, achieved great results.
My fave moment, in ED2, after Ash's hand attacks him, "Who's laughing now!" as he cuts his hand off with a chain saw, laughing hysterically. love that scene!
I'll await your decision before voting.

Fog, I completely forgot to add Dead Set to the list. The list is only designed to aid people's selection process, which is why at the bottom I included "other [please name]"
I didn't include Evil Dead movies, because they are demon possessed and not actually zombies, although technically they're undead, and get referred to as Deadites in Army of Darkness. I'm a huge fan of the original movie, but never really warmed to Evil Dead 2's splatstick, nor the OTT silliness of Army of Darkness.

I take your point about ED, fair enough.
My selections are; (taking into account my faulty memory, due to past indulgences, especially whne viewing schlock horror and zombie films)
3pts: Dead Set
(fresh in memory and was great seeing BB inmates getting eaten, wish they'd do it to the Oz cast!)
2pts: Shaun of the Dead
Love its balance 'tween laugh and zombie thrills.
1pt: I Walked with a Zombie
Saw it late 60's early 70's, was impressed, saw it in black and white on TV, great atmosphere, also a social commentary about slaves/black people, but probably unintentional, although not a head biter in anyway.
Wish I could check out the rest but too short of time at present, sorry I can't give a more informed opinion.
cheers

Well, as I have not seen many in the list,
I must go on titles possibly indicating a dead loss cinematically, artistically and every other way, BUT, I could be dead wrong!
If my first choice is a decent flick, then my vote goes to the second one listed.
First choice for WORST film:
Zombie Strippers,
(but what a great title!!)
second choice;
Dead Girl

In fact, you could say that the running zombies in Snyder's remake aren't real zombies... they run! Can't have running contenders amongst the shuffling dead!
I jest, of course, but the zombie genre has moved beyond the living dead (sort of#. Surely your list can do so too?
Oh, also, I'm ever so slightly disappointed that Return of the Living Dead didn't make the list?
As to the choice... I am torn. There are about 10 movies on there that I love. When it comes down to it, I suppose...
3 votes - Planet Terror
2 votes - Snyder's Dawn of the Dead
1 vote - Shaun of the Dead
very very very close runners up; Quarantine, Romero's triology, Zombieland, Slither (HUGE Nathan Fillion fan), Return of the Living Dead, Reanimator.

So perhaps I need to completely re-adjust the parameters of this poll ...? Do zombie movies include movies where the living are still living, but they're infected, and have become ferocious and relentlessly cannibalistic? I think I have to put 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later back in the list, because in my vampire contenders list I included movies where the vampires are simply humans with a taste for blood.
Comment by Ignacio
But if you remove from the list 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, you also have to remove Pontypool, because people didin't die like zombies , they just lose their minds..
In my opinion the list is great, all of those movies are representative of the zombie type movie..keep 28 days and week on the list..
Comment by biohazard
the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.the supernatural force itself
28 days and 28 weeks Infected will die if they do not get some food (human) Zombie will live for ever, they come from the grave, infected do not. Infected contaminate other by touching, bite or other way if you get shoot you die and not come back. Zombie bite you, you die and after you came back.
But this is my point of view I am not here for tell you what to think, just put the right definition in place.
And yes I will be ok to remove all no zombie movie and keep the real spirit of zombie lover movies.

I am going to stick to my guns, and not remove any of the contenders from the list. However I will adjust the parameters of the "zombie" sub-genre for the purposes of my poll.
And may the best gut-muncher win!
