VAMPIRES SUCK
July 27th 2010 07:04
I actually discovered the trailer to Vampires Suck (2010), a super-trash spoof of the Twilight series and other pop-culture, purely by chance. It's from the same guys who gave us the Scary Movie/Date Movie/Epic Movie/Disaster Movie, etc lampoons ... Ummmm, yeah, I know.
Hey, maybe you'll smirk some, you might have a chortle, indulge in a snigger even, hell, you might even laugh out loud ...
I did, I couldn't help myself. Hey, I needed some light relief. Tragic, I know. Go figure.

Shame Mel Brooks isn't around to show them how to parody with understanding ala Young Frankenstein.

I'm not a fan of "spoofs" and I'll probably never spend money to see this movie but I did get a laugh out of the same scene "Its Raining Men".
Not everyone can be Mel Brooks but do they have to be?

I'm actually afraid that the hype would ruin it for me. All in good time though.

Chris Guest is the man for spoofs of real world activities for sure and Spinal Tap is his masterpiece. For your consideration did tackle the movie world though and I was one of the few who seemed to like it.
I love a good movie spoof, The Zuckers are also superb at them. I even laughed at Loaded Weapon.
Dead Men don't Wear Plaid is an all time fave from Mr Reiner too.
It just seems the genre has been reduced to such an obvious, base level, lowest common denominator that I can't even recall the last time one amused.
PS - To Deni
I don't ask that all comedy spoofs be Mel Brooks, but i do demand that they manage to be funny or at least smile worthy

And yes Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is superb as well (for the noir genre).
I also rate Top Secret (another Zucker flick) very highly too (for the war-spy genre)
And of course Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles ... (horror and Western respectively)

Top Secret may well be more laughs a minute than any other film made

A spoof can be satirical, but it must be comedy ala "Vampire Sucks", whether it's social commentary, I have no idea but it doesn't look it judging from the trailer.
"Blazing Saddles" is a satire but more so an ironic commentary that typically attacks, ridicules, or otherwise critiques its target.

It certainly seems to attack, ridicule and critique" the Twilight phenomenon.
An example of what I understand to be a satire would be Brazil, or M.A.S.H.
Blazing Saddles satires the relationship Hollywood has had with the African-American ... but it disguises it as a spoof of the Western.

Vampires Suck, from what I've read is a parody film. I haven't seen it but I've read that it simply pokes fun at all the vampire-themed movies that the public has been bombarded with. A spoof no different from Scary Movie and the teen horror fad.
I think that a satire which disguises itself as a spoof is still a satire.
