What's your VAMPIRE NAME?
August 10th 2007 00:19
I was searching through my “favourites” list and came across a curious link. I can’t remember who sent it to me, but the word “vampire” re-piqued my interest, so I opened it up and explored a little further.
It’s a homepage belonging to a 31-year-old English writer called Emma Davies who lives in a cottage in Derbyshire and hopes to be a successful writer one day. In the meantime she is a computer programmer by day and a poet and short story writer by night.
She appears to be pre-occupied with fairies and alternative nutrition, an odd mix, but then, from her own words she doesn’t come across as your typical wallflower either; “I'm an atheist. I'm not even slightly mystical. Sorry: I don't believe in fairies. I'm a scientist at heart. I'm very left-wing but too cynical to believe in the Marxist dream anymore. Power corrupts. There are too many stupid people in the world. I don't believe most of what I hear in the news, or at least not the slant it's given by naive journalists. I am a feminist of sorts and I believe wholeheartedly in sexual liberation of all kinds. I like goths, skaters, hippies and alternative types. I have a fascination with witches. I am not a goth. I don't subscribe to any particular social group, as I like dressing up too much.”
She's smart and witty and some of her poetry is quite good, but I haven’t read any of her short stories. She sells fairy dolls on behalf of a friend and maintains a nutrition blog, as well as her own fairy and fantasy creative ramblings.
But let’s cut to the chase; vampires. On her homepage is a link through to a Vampire Name Generator (this is the link I was initially sent), where you enter in your first and last name, hit the Find My Vampire Name button and before you can say “Nosferatu”, the Great Archives has created a name, including an additional description of what you are known as in other parts of the world, and what the Great Archives lists you as in their Records.
I am Michael Saint Clair, known in some parts of the world as Bacchus of Slaves in Chains, and described as “Silently this one moves amongst the helpless and the oppressed.”
I dig it. It glides and bites with a kind of Anne Rice elegance.
Apparently the Vampire Name Generator is designed to be used for gothic role playing games like White Wolf’s Vampire: The Requiem and Vampire: The Masquerade and also the Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG. Gee, I haven’t indulged in role-playing since I was a teenager with the odd game of Dungeons & Dragons. There is also a Goth Name Generator on the same page. And, of course, a Fairy Name Generator too, for those inclined.
I wonder if anyone has come up with a Werewolf Name Generator or a Demon Name Generator? I’d certainly like to know mine.

Hmmm.. not sure about Hanzi Burns. I had to look up Hierophant:
1 : a priest in ancient Greece; specifically : the chief priest of the Eleusinian mysteries
2 a : EXPOSITOR b : ADVOCATE 2
So I guess I'm a priest of the Steely Moon

I want you all at my next dinner party!!! Rich conversations and even richer red wine!
How on earth do these name generators actually work? Perhaps knowing that "secret" will destroy the mystique ...

At least being pastey, well versed in literature, morose, overtly sexual and uptight about my clothing, the vampiric name won't suggest I'm gay!

I think that my identity is kind of lame as I read other comments. Countess of the Arctic is a kickass identity. I am Mis Hot and Cold? Really? Thanks for the invite..... I will just drink my identity away and enjoy your company :0)

It's Ahab here. Ahab Fey. Remember? We met at your dinner party.
Has an Incubus got more power than a Duchess in the Underworld? I'm a bit worried about running into The Bitch of Blood down here.
And, I've seen enough episodes of Buffy to know there's some kick-arse women out there.

I might need to make a trip down into the cellar for more red wine, anyone care to join me? I can show you my extensive collection of hand-carved and finished coffins.
