MUTO

street artist Blu at work
My wife drew (pun intended) my attention to this extraordinary piece of moving street art: MUTO ... An Ambiguous Animation Painting on Public Walls created and realised by a very talented guy called Blu.

The credits read: “Made in Buenos Aires and Baden. Animation and editing by Blu. Music by Andrea Martignoni.” After watching the movie, all I could think of (apart from "Wow!") was "How long did that take to do?!" It has to be seen to be believed.

So what is it exactly? An extended series of still photographs capturing black and white sketches illustrated on walls and pavements that have then been edited together to form a short seven-minute movie, MUTO. It's nothing short of brilliant … Genius even. An expressionist and surreal nightmare of mutation and evolution, garish and grotesque, it’s neo-graffiti come alive, pulsating, throbbing, expanding, crawling, climbing, bursting at its concrete seams.

But enough of me trying to describe it, you need to see it (and hear it, the soundtrack is equally impressive) for yourselves, marvel and recoil.

Here's the movie:

I saw this one on YouTube just last night, it really is incredible the amount (and quality) of work Blu has put into it. Absolute genius, I loved every frame of it. My guess is that it took at least a year, because they would have only been able to paint on fine days.
