HATCHET
September 12th 2007 02:19
A black comedy called Hatchet, described as “old school American” horror was completed last year, played the Tribeca film festival in New York City, plus numerous other fantasy/horror festivals around the world, received critical acclaim and finally saw a US and UK theatrical release for this and next month. Fingers crossed, once again, for a big screen release down under.
The plot is pretty straight forward: When a group of tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare.
The MPAA (American board of censors) gave it thus: Rated R for strong bloody horror violence, sexual content, nudity and language (edited for re-rating; previously NC-17 for extreme violence and gore). Well, looks like the horror fans will be waiting for the “unrated” DVD version methinks.
There are a couple of cult actors amongst the cast; Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund and Kane “Jason Voorhees” Hodder as what Harry Knowles at ain’titcoolnews calls “the next great horror icon”. A bold statement.
The writer/director Adam Green is currently working on a zombie/American Native Indian horror called Dead West due for release next year.

Am I correct in assuming so?
Or is it Jump and boo flick?
Probably a better choice than the current thursday night zombie flicks.
