HAPPY 'BLOODY' BIRTHDAY HORRORPHILE!
August 16th 2007 01:04
That’s right, it’s been exactly one year since I delivered my first Pleasure of Nightmares post on Orble. Wow, how time flies when you’re having fun!
I must say it’s been an intriguing ride so far … I’ve been elated and depressed at different times. However I’ve very much appreciated the opportunity Orble has provided me. The five days a week writing discipline has been immeasurable for me as a freelance writer, and I trust it will be another stepping stone to my inevitable Great Success.
(I’m still waiting for that wealthy and influential literary agent to come across my blog and decide I’m the perfect person to put together a book with a “fresh kills” perspective on the modern horror movie … still waiting …)
Considering that the majority of blogs that feature regularly in the Orble traffic stats top twenty most visited sites are blogs on very broad subjects such as “movies”, “fashion”, “photos”, “sport”, “cars”, “health", “music”, “trivia”, "celebrity gossip", etc; that my blog on “the high art and deep trash of horror movies” has generally floated between 20 and 30 out of nearly two-and-half thousand Orble blogs is pretty impressive! Sure it’s just another movie blog - and they’re a dime a dozen on Orble - but mine’s on horror movies, not most people’s cup of congealed blood, er, tea.
I’ve managed to get into the top 20 most visited sites a whopping sixteen times in the past year. Woo hoo! The highest I got was 16 out of 1878 blogs. Not bloody bad I guess. Still, I want more! I want my flesh and eat it too, dammit! ... Not that traffic stats should rule my dark roost. It’s not a popularity contest, I know, I know ...
John Doe (whose Orble birthday was yesterday) and I joke (bitterly, of course) from time to time about how similar our traffic stats often are. We make snide remarks about how we’re probably just not “bloggy” enough at the end of the day. Getting to #21 and no higher, time and time again ... "To blog or not to blog" … is that the question?
But hey, I’m not here to gripe. I’m here to growl, like a werewolf, in celebration! Yeah!!!
I’ve still got so much ground to cover, well, especially in the review stakes. I’ve only reviewed five of my top 20 all time favourite horror movies (#20 Innocent Blood, #16 Dead Ringers, #8 An American Werewolf in London, #6 Deep Red, and #4 The Thing), so there’s still plenty to do! I love concocting my little quizzes and selecting the movie posters for my monthly galleries.
I’ve made some charming, insightful and witty new acquaintances since writing for Orble and I’d like to take the opportunity to howl a warm “OWWWWWW!!!” to all of you who’ve regularly visited the Darkness to indulge in my Pleasure of Nightmares, to share my point of view, and to offer your own perspective on "the black sheep of cinema"
A raise my goblet of dark blood wine (‘cos I’m a vampire too) to the Orblers who’ve made me laugh and who’ve supported me: Jon and Charles, John Doe and Cibby, Kylie, Damo, David, lilith, Tracy, D. Armenta, DuskDevi, Nick, MelissaA, Adrian, Lilla, dementia, Sisi, Ahmed, katyzzz, Luke, Norm, Stanley, Nina, Hellvis, Ruby, Little Angry Doll, Voices in my Head, Adrienne, LaurenD, and my Cryptic fiancé … There have been many others, my apologies if I’ve forgotten to mention you. Keep on bloggin’!
And so, to mark my 1st birthday on Orble I thought I’d make a list, ‘cos I love making lists.

You've done a *great* job of making horror accessible to all visitors with a combination of reviews, commentary and quizzes...
For myself, the effect your blog has had on me is tremendous:
Before Horrorphile, I didn't like horror movies.
After Horrorphile, I love them. I'm browsing through the horror section in the DVD store, and I'm always looking to get some of the rarer ones.
It all started with Deep Red, alas.
I think that's the highest compliment someone can pay to a reviewer.

Doesn't time fly?
I have enjoyed all your posts even the ones onmovies that I may not enjoy.
However your post have always been to the subject and devoid of any waffle (man I hate waffle).
May your reign of terror continue.

COUNT VON BRYN!!!!!!!
I must admit, I was a devotee of horror as a youngster, and had left it behind, till you rekindled many fond memories of Dracula movies and screaming along with hundreds of other punters.
Science Fiction movies were my favourite, vampire movies came a close second, along with the fabulous Japanese sci fi genre; every weekend, on Friday and Saturday nights, when we used to have the 'late night movie', up to the 'late late late late night movie', movie marathons, loved them, and Deadly Earnest, and then Elvira, those were the days! Gone now thanks to late night advertising and cable buying all the old films.
Anyway, your site is a credit to you! Interesting, witty, informative...and....
you give nice graffic!!
and did someone mention waffles?...I love waffles...I'll have mine with fresh raspberry sauce with a dollop of whipped cream thanks!
cheers and beers

Have a sadistic and bloodthirsty Orble birthday.
As to your top 13 fav things ...
Vampires are annoying (I had my blood taken a few too many times while pregnant)
Witches are great. I love spells.
We have a ghosty in our house who sems very nice! My baby daughter loves him/her.
Germanic Expressionism ... um ... okay ... how about this - "Lumpy ist mein hund" or this "Meine bein ist gebroken" ... does that count? Thats all the german I know!
Have a great one, Bryn.

hope you are still celebrating with vast goblets of freshly squeezed "whurrghin" blood!
I loved Blood For Dracula...did you see it? A Warhol experience, a must see at the theatre, as was his Flesh For Frankenstein...in 3D...magic!!
Oh, I was allowed Infognito, and have set up the basic site, check it out and let me know of any suggestions, I only had my cat eyes, to add 'mystery' to the banner, as my pooter is screwed and cannot download from my camera and whatnot, I had to make do.
Anyhoo...have a HOWLING good time, you deserve it..lasting 12 months...brilliant!! I am not sure I will myself!!

Happy bloody, male-menopausal blogging cycle.
Horrorphile is a passionate and persuasive blog. It's always a great read. Cibby's right on the mark with:
It's also consistently professional, which does make me wonder about what the 'paying media' are really seeking. Sycophants?
This is interesting:
Regardless of how popular blogging is, it's still in its infancy. It will be interesting to see what develops over the next year or two (or maybe 5 or 10) re financial rewards or discoveries for bloggers.
I hope some real (non AdSense) money comes into your blogging world or you get paid by someone else.
Love the cake.
