Who's your pick for FINAL GIRL?

The Final Girl is a staple of slasher flicks. She’s the last young woman standing. The girl who’s purity, or more specifically, her spunky chutzpah has managed to keep her at arm’s length from the psychopath’s blade. She’ll no doubt be heavily traumatized, and probably sporting numerous cuts and bruises, but she’s alive, and she may have even kicked some boogeyman butt.

Back in the day before the term Final Girl was coined she was known as a Scream Queen. One of the most famous was Jamie Lee Curtis; boy did she have a set of lungs on her! Ahem! Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), Terror Train (1980), Prom Night (1980), and Halloween II (1981), cemented her in modern horror’s hall of screaming fame.

In the B-movie stakes Miss Linnea Quigley garnered a cult following, not only for happily stripping off at any opportunity, but also for wiggling those tonsils loud and clear. However Linnea didn’t always reach Final Girl status.

Which brings me to the question at hand; who of the select thirteen below would you cast as Final Girl in a horror movie being made today. I’ve compiled the list from contemporary actors who have never been Final Girl, but young women whom I think have the guts, glory - and gorgeousness, of course - to find them being endeared to and cheered on by the audience. The kind of girl who the audience aren’t thinking ten minutes into the movie, “Damn, I hope that stupid, annoying chick gets butchered big time!”

Yes, I’ll admit, a couple of these actors have been in, or are currently filming a horror movie, but they’re not your classic stalk’n’slash movies where a bunch of obnoxious, pot-smokin’, pant-droppin’ “teenagers” are steadily picked off by an unknown killer. They’re all good actors, but I’ve included a few that would be great to cast against type. And yes, I'll admit there’s one in there that despite her tarnished, obnoxious reputation, she’s got the charisma and acting chops to carry her past the killer’s chop.

And I’ll admit that several of them have bigger sets of lungs than others.

So now, in no particular order:

Ooh, ooh, I'm voting for Emily Watson- although to be honest it's because she's the actress I know the best besides Christina Ricci, who I count as a close second. Christina would also make a great 'killer among the group' type, but maybe that's just me.
