Horror movies WE'D like to see
November 15th 2006 01:32
In the darkly-tinged, tongue-in-cheek vein of Mad magazine’s Scenes We’d Like To See, here are eight horror movies I’m sure would tickle the perverted fancies of adventurous horror fans and discerning misanthropists alike.
The Devil Flies by Night
Directed by Martin Scorsese
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Jared Leto
Synopsis: In the near future bird flu reaches pandemic levels, wiping out entire cities. Survivors turn into desperate and crazed marauding gangs. Religious figures are sure it is Armageddon and prepare for the Second Coming. Conspiracy theorists discover it is the work of bio-chemist Satanists.
Heatwave
Directed by Robert Roderiguez
Starring Ving Rhames, Mickey Rourke, Carla Gugino
Synopsis: Fifty years in the future an isolated group of mercenaries are sent to assassinate a guerilla coastal outpost threatening the fragile political balance. Global warming has reduced the landscape to an arid, almost uninhabitable furnace. The guerillas survive a horrific assault only to have a tsunami obliterate everything.
Killing in the Name
Directed by Fernando Meirelles
Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem
Synopsis: The leader of a small group of terrorist extremists has a crisis of conscience, and after a botched mission is badly injured and loses grips with his sanity. He succeeds in destroying a major political landmark, then like a sniper he kills everyone around, including his own people, and eventually himself.
SnuffTV
Directed by Alexandre Aja
Starring Rose McGowan, Vincent Cassel, Nicoletta Romanoff
Synopsis: In the near future reality TV has reached its nadir. Pirate television stations broadcast a human hunting game. One demented player goes all the way, kills all the competition, infiltrates the broadcast station, kills the production team, and then decides to annihilate everything.
I Will Be Devoured
Directed by Takashi Miike
Starring Johnny Depp, Ralph Fiennes, Marilyn Manson
Synopsis: An investigative journalist is fascinated by a German cannibal whom put an ad in the paper for a willing victim. He becomes obsessed and descends into a dark fetish underworld. Inexorably he finds himself in the company of the cannibal. He barely survives only to find he has garnered a taste for flesh.
Ice
Directed by David Cronenberg
Starring Christopher Walken, Elija Wood, Alexis Bledel
Synopsis: A dysfunctional family moves to a new town where the sister and brother are befriended by the local gang who are all addicted to crystal methamphetamine. But it turns out the drug is actually a supernatural chemical hybrid created by a demon which turns its addicts into psychotic vampires.
The Dark Room
Directed by Dario Argento
Starring Marton Csokas, Asia Argento, Francesca Neri
Synopsis: In the glamourous world of high class fashion a photographer is accused of sexual harassment. He is made a scapegoat, and stripped of his reputation. He becomes unhinged and seeks revenge, only to come up against a mentally disturbed ex-model whom he sexually assaulted years earlier as a teenager.
Nape of the Neck
Directed by Jane Campion
Starring Paul McGann and Emily Blunt
Synopsis: A troubled surgeon has a nervous breakdown during an operation and ends up killing a patient. He is institutionalized and turns to sculpture. A maimed nurse becomes his muse and she initiates a torrid sexual relationship. The nurse had been a child in a bungled operation by the ex-surgeon and now she wishes to even the score.

I wonder where the thrill of horror movies comes from, it seems to have passed me by!
If I see one and a male friend of mine wants to go I'll see if I can tolerate one, there must be some purpose behind the facination and the horror of real life I guess can be so much worse.
I'm a sound of music fan, that just about says it all doesn't it?
But I find your site graphic and interesting and it's obviously got a lot to offer a lot of people.
I can understand your wanting to preserve the originals.
Most Hollywood movies leave me cold, I rarely go.

You made me laugh, that was so funny.
katyzzz!
Ever thought about changing to English comedies? Although nowadays they seem to be only on the TV and then, out here, not much.
I do like a good laugh, it's probably almost as good as horror as a tension release.

Celebrity Obsession
I like these ideas. Very creative. Better than some of the crap premises of movies that are currently in work!
Also - much respect with Withnail and I as your favourite comedy!

Yes, I've seen "Pi" and I also loved Darren's Requiem for a Dream.
I'm a big fan of Asian horror too ... seen numerous flicks!

thank you! They're all a little tongue-in-cheek, but since posting them I've kinda fallen for a couple of the premises, and am wondering if I should've made them public ....

Love of film is a very personal thing.
Just as music is.
And art.
Welcome.
