BLOODY DISGUSTING'S TOP 20 FILMS OF THE DECADE
January 19th 2010 05:00
Blood Disgusting, probably the most popular horror movie site in the world, has posted their top twenty movies of the past decade as compiled by their freelance writers and in-house staff. It’s not a surprising list in the slightest, in fact it’s about as safe as houses. I even predicted the top three as I moved into the top ten (which were being revealed in groups of five from bottom to top).
I’ve seen them all except for Session 9, which has yet to be released on DVD down under. Takashi Miike’s masterpiece Audition would’ve featured very highly in my own selection had it not been released in 1999. It’s included in the Bloody Disgusting list because it wasn’t released in the US until 2000. I really enjoyed May, but it didn’t quite make my selection. I also really enjoyed the Hollywood remake of Ringu, The Ring, and agree with their comments, but I still think the Japanese original commands a wholly unique nightmarish atmosphere that Hollywood cannot replicate.
Just over half their list features in my own, and I have to say their top five (with the exception of Session 9, which I’ve still to pass judgment on) is a very strong selection indeed. Curious is that the majority of these movies are now considered modern classics. Could the same be said of a best of the 90s? What would a best of the 80s and 70s be? Hmmm, now there’s a challenge awaiting me. The question is where do I draw the line? The 70s and 80s will be very hard to limit to 20 each that’s for sure!
Here is Bloody Disgusting’s top 20 films of the decade:
1. Let the Right One In
2. Shaun of the Dead
3. The Descent
4. The Mist
5. Session 9
6. The Ring
7. 28 Days Later
8. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
9. Trick ‘r Treat
10. Saw
11. [REC]
12. Inside
13. Drag Me to Hell
14. Audition
15. Battle Royale
16. Paranormal Activity
17. May
18. The Devil’s Backbone
19. American Psycho
20. Cloverfield
Honourable mention: Frailty (it drew even with Cloverfield on their points system)

Film & TV on DVD
Session 9 has been out on DVD in Oz for years now...I picked it up a while back for under 10 dollars when i worked at JB...for the record its worth a watch and is certainly a "what you don't see is scarier" type deal. 9Not sure I would have ranked it so high though)
Great to see love for May, and all in all the bloodydisgusting list is solid...in fact i enjoyd all teh movies on their list except 28 days later (You and I agree that the sequel was far superior)
