"I always do an all-night horror marathon on Saturdays where we start at seven and go until five in the morning." --- Quentin Tarantino ::::::::::: MY CRITERIA FOR DISCUSSION ENCOMPASSES THE HORROR GENRE AND BEYOND, SO I USE THE TERM "NIGHTMARE MOVIES". 4th ANNUAL A NIGHT OF HORROR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

April 6th 2010 05:57
A Night of Horror 2010
One of my favourite periods of the year returns to Sydney (and beyond) for its fourth season: A Night Of Horror, a nine-day film festival of features, shorts, Q&As, giveaways, and awards, a phantasmogorical shriek-fest, drenched in blood, streaked with gore, and guaranteed to send shivers up the most hardened spines!

Co-directors Dean Bertram and Lisa Mitchell and programmer Shane K. have put together a delightfully dark selection of horror humdingers and terror treats, many from Australian filmmakers, but also from horrorphile cineastes abroad, some of whom have traveled across the great divide to present their films and answer questions from enthusiasts.

The Haunting in Connecticut
Highlights in this year’s programme include the critically-acclaimed The Haunting in Connecticut from ex-pat Aussie Peter Cornwell, another ex-pat, Melissa George, starring in the boat-bound Triangle, three Aussie debut shockers; zombie carnage in Damned by Dawn (which opens the festival), brutal revenge in The Horseman, and sci-fi mayhem in The Dark Lurking.

House of Flesh Mannequins
There’s a double-whammy of UK modern classic The Descent coupled with the recently released sequel The Descent: Part 2, a confronting fetishistic descent from Italy/America called House of Flesh Mannequins, as well as the hotly-anticipated UK The Children and the documentary Into the Pit, which examines respected horror talk radio podcast Deadpit.com and its influences and inspirations.
The Children

Also to look forward to is the festival’s now de rigueur Lovecraftian Shorts mini-programme, plus another mini-programme of zombie-infested short films, Zombie Apocalypse. One can never have enough primordial, gut-munching horror, I say!
Triangle Melissa George

A Night Of Horror festival returns to Dendy cinemas in Newtown, Sydney, and runs from Thursday April 15th through to Friday April 23rd. Awards and closing night party follow the screening of the last scheduled feature Triangle.

The festival's official launch is at the Mu-Meson Archives (Cnr. Parramatta Rd. and Trafalgar St. Annandale), this Saturday, April 10, 7:30pm. Tickets only $10 at the door. Featuring an exclusive warm-up double feature of out-there horror comedies: Won Ton Baby! and Barn Of The Blood Llama.

For complete movie details and screening times visit the Dendy website here.

Don’t forget to visit the A Night Of Horror website for festival touring dates and more news, and make sure you become a friend of the festival!

For a curious insight into the minds and machinations of the festival’s directors click here for a Q&A with Dean and Lisa I did last year.

Stay tuned for movie previews in the lead-up to the festival!
