"I always do an all-night horror marathon on Saturdays where we start at seven and go until five in the morning." --- Quentin Tarantino ::::::::::: MY CRITERIA FOR DISCUSSION ENCOMPASSES THE HORROR GENRE AND BEYOND, SO I USE THE TERM "NIGHTMARE MOVIES". SPOILERS CAN OCCUR WITH OR WITHOUT WARNING. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

THE 4th ANNUAL HORRORPHILE HALL OF INFAMY - CHOOSE YOUR CHAMPIONS!

July 8th 2011 06:14
Hall of Infamy 2011 choose your champions
I’m changing the system once again. It’s the last time I promise. The Hall of Infamy entry procedure will be locked in position from now on.

So how does it work? You choose which movies and figures you think are worthy of joining a select few (so far) of champion nightmare movies. There are five periods to cover, Pre-1968, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s (including 2010 and ’11). You’ll also select a champion nightmare movie director, and select the most notorious monster (this includes all manner of menacing villain from nasty aliens and mythological beasts to psychopaths and evil machines). Finally, you’ll select a champion special effects artist (gore or creature design) or a movie that features awesome special effects work (CGI effects work is ineligible).

Only eight decisions to make. Make it happen.

I’ve taken into account the previous three years’ Hall of Infamy placeholders and only movies that have featured every year have been allowed to remain within the Hall of Infamy. These are considered champion nightmare movies. Further votes for these movies will affect their position on the Hall of Infamy ladder.

This is a call-out to all dedicated horrorphiles! Participate in the 4th Annual Horrorphile Hall of Infamy and decide the Nightmare Movie Champions!

From this humble amateur - my selections.

1) Night of the Living Dead honourable mention to Pyscho, the Univited and Rosemary's Baby

2) The Exorcist with honourable mention to Dawn of the Dead

3) The Shining with honourable mentions to Friday the 13th and Halloween

4) Ringu with honourable mention to Dead Alive

5) Sorry - only one really might be Ju On or The Ruins - not offay with too many latter day 'classics'

6) George Romero with inclusion of Alfred Hitchcock into the Hall of Fame

7) Traditionalist here - Frankenstein's Monster

8) Not even in the right league to cast a vote on that one.

Cheers Nice Guy! Surely you can name a movie that had impressive special effects? What about The Exorcist then? Or Braindead (aka Dead Alive)?

OK - well probably won't go with The Fly (the original at least - and the first piece of schlock I ever remember seeing) - how about Poltergeist - which was pretty cool.

Okay, Poltergeist it is. Poltergeist holds a special place in my dark heart as it was technically the last movie that genuinely frightened me silly (I was about 12).

Hey Pablo! Cheers mate!
Great selection. The Profecy? Shouldn't that read The Prophecy? Is that the one with Chris Walken?? You need to be more specific with the special effects selection, either decide on a sfx artist or name an actual movie, Masters of Horror series is too broad.

Brynstar, I thought all the episodes had been done by the same guy/team. I only know the big names, Savini, Nicotero ...
Yes, Prophecy with Christopher Walken.
BTW - I would also choose every other film from the other people's list

Pablo, perhaps so, and probably KNB EFX Group too.
I've not seen The Prophecy. I'll have to check it out. Cheers.
